Borrowed from Tyche
The Political Compass
We’re going through a database conversion at work. They are never easy. And nobody is ever fully ready on the day of the cutover. I’m having a hard time convincing some of the staff that they don’t have to be 100% on the new software to make the switch. I and my associate will be there to help everyone through the transition.
We’ve already moved it forward twice. I’m not moving it again.
I had some training sessions last week to help ease some of the staff’s anxieties. We’ve had a testing version of the new software up for three months. The only staff members that are resistant to the change are the ones that haven’t gone into the system to test it out. We made up workbooks for everyone based on their position. They were supposed to go through the workbook, try the exercise, and describe the steps they took. At the bottom they were to rate it one of three ways:
The staff that are doing the best have gotten most of the way through their workbooks.
When we do go live, if things don’t go perfectly, I have a feeling I am going to be one very frustrated tech director.
Edit – I got interrupted when I was writing this and totally forgot to post it!
Woke up to snow this morning. It completely covered the ground by the time it was finished. But the temps warmed up and it was gone by 4pm.
I can’t wait til winter is finally behind us!
Just finished up my budget projections for the rest of this fiscal year (ends on June 30) so now I can start my weekend.
I hope to catch up on everyone’s blog this weekend. I haven’t had much time over the last week.
We’re getting the last vestiges of winter here – it seems to be making a desperate grasp to hold on and block spring. I think March is going to go out like a lion rather than like a lamb. Hopefully the weather will be nicer next weekend so I can get the snow tires off my car and put the regular tires back on.
Mac heard a song “God Bless The Child” and said it sounded like the perfect karaoke song for me, so I’m going to listen to it and see if I have it on one of my karaoke disks. My sister Deb also suggested that song to me a long time ago.
It’s 6:30 pm and I’m still at work. I will probably be here for at least another 45 minutes.
Happy Friday.
I just posted about this Nine Inch Nails/Jane’s Addiction tour for 250 credits. You can earn free credits too!
Just out of curiosity, what do you feel the U.S. government owes its citizenry?
For example – do they owe them a safe place to work and live? or does it go further? Does it owe them a place to live and a steady income? Does it owe them health care? Which should be a priority – maintaining a strong military or providing health care?
I am not looking for administration bashing. So don’t tell me how badly Bush’s administration did, or how silly the current administration’s bailout bill is. Just give me your personal feelings about what you think the government of this country owes its citizenry.
Anyone who is a gamer knows what “ganking” and “DCing” is. For those who don’t:
Ganking is when someone from the “other side” kills your character, then “camps” your body until you rez (resurrect) and then kills you again before you can recover all of your health.
DCing is disconnecting.
I saw an ad on MySpace for APC Uninterruptible Power Supply ad that said, on the first screen:
Tired of getting ganked?
On the second screen it said:
Stop DCing!
Then it showed the APC UPS.
I just saw the following ads on MySpace:
I can so identify with this!!!
I had a couple of very vivid dreams that I think may mean something…
The Spa
Scene 1: Mailing List
Scene 2: Spa
The room had one king sized bed, two very narrow twin beds, and a daybed. I said “We need to decide who is sleeping where. The last time I shared a room, I got the king bed, so I’ll take one of the twins this time.” The girl (who never does have a name) who organized this said “That’s okay. I already claimed the king size bed.”
Then I saw a sign that said “No TV after 8:30. Lights Out.” I asked her about the sign and she said “I’m a morning person. It’s my decision.”
Then other people started arriving, and I pretended I was acquainted with them all (because I am supposed to be active on this list, and I rarely bother with it.)
Then in walks Tyche. Whew! Finally someone I know. We try to talk Tyche‘s nameless, faceless roommate into changing rooms, but she won’t.
Fade to
Military waiting room
We get up and I say “We can do this? Oh. You’re an officer. You can do whatever you want.” And we start walking. We walk down a few corridors then make our way back. The officer who was standing before us while we were sitting and waiting is talking to a very large, imposing officer and says “Her, number two.” and points to me. The big guy takes me into his office and says “You can’t just go wandering off. You belong to the military now. But that’s something I need to talk to you about.”
I said, “You don’t need to explain. I know. I’m too old and fat. I’ll never pass any of your physical fitness tests.”
He looked at me and said, “You have an attitude. I was going to buy you a fifteen minute lunch, but” and I interrupted him and said “That’s okay, I haven’t really been here long enough to take a 15-minute break, have I?”
Then I woke up. I remember this vividly because both dreams were right before I got up this morning (afternoon!), and when I did I told them both to Mac.
So here is what I take from them.
I need a spa trip with Tyche and a few other friends, because I need to be kick-started back on the road to good health and Tyche is my idol for the picture of good health LOL. I can’t do anything about my age, but I can do something about my weight and level of fitness
