Month: January 2009

  • I made it!

I joined NaBloPoMo – National Blog Posting Month – the goal is to post a blog entry every day of the month.  I wasn’t sure I could do it, but I managed to find something to write about every day this month, even if it was only a line or two

And got myself about 65% to being a True Xangan to boot LOL

  • Insulin

You would think that after 7 months it would be second nature to me to “shoot up” before meals.  But it seems like at least once a day I think about an hour after eating “Dammit I forgot to take my insulin shot.”

I finally got my oral meds down, so I’m not missing doses of those anymore (after 9 years) I hope it’s not going to take me 9 years to not forget the insulin!

  • Corruption? In Illinois? Nooooooooooooooooo

What a dork.  Blogo should have resigned.  At least then the corrupt dork could have held his head up while he packed up his office.  Now, instead he’s been fired.  I wonder if they are going to bar him from running for office again.  Strangely enough, he still has a lot of supporters.  But I doubt he would win any election.

Edit:  I tried to include this in my reply to Nevragn but the Xanga gods stripped it out:

  • Making friends

I came to the realization today (okay, no I didn’t.  I’ve always known this.) that I’m not a very friendly person.  I mean, I don’t make friends easily.  Not real friends.  I am well liked at work and get invited out to lunch quite often, but none of those people are people I would socialize with if I didn’t work with them.  We really have nothing else in common.  The person I go to lunch with (Colette) most is a very proud born-again Christian married to a preacher.  I am an athiest.  Now there’s a match made in heaven.  NOT.  But I like Colette.  She’s fun and funny.  But if we became friends outside of work, it wouldn’t last long because we would run out of things to do/say/etc. to develop the friendship.

I make friends online.  Nearly every close friend I have is someone I met online.  Including my husband.  I guess I find that people I meet online I meet in places where we share common interests.

  • This chick needs to get over herself

I have a myspace page that I basically use to keep in touch with family.  My brother’s ex was on my friends list because I’ve never had a problem with her and she is the niece’s and nephew’s mom.

Today I changed my status to say “I need another vacation” and my mood to “Indifferent”

I got a comment from her telling me to stop mocking her.  I wrote back (privately, not on her comments page) asking her what she was talking about, and how could changing my status to “need a vacation” be mocking her.

She wrote back “That’s not it and you know it.  My headliner says indifferent and you put that in your mood to mock me.”

I removed her from my friends list.  And wrote back telling her to get over herself, that I didn’t even see her “headliner” whatever that is.

    Talk about delusional!  Sheesh

Thanks for all the quote suggestions!!!

  • I need quotes!

I have a white board in my office that I used to write projects on when I had a shared office, and I’d check them off as we completed them.  Now we use software for that, so I’ve been trying to come up with a weekly quote to put on the board.

    So far I’ve used:

    • A goal without a plan is just a wish.  – Antoine de Saint Exupery
    • For myself, I am an optimist -  it does not seem to be much use being anything else. – Sir Winston Churchill (11/09/1954)

    Anyone have any favorite quotes?

  • Featured Question for 1/25/09

Do you think you act your age? If not, how old do you act?

Wow, I don’t know.  Hmmm.  How is a 52-year-old supposed to act?  I act like ME and I’m 52 so I suppose I act my age.  Now if I’m supposed to act grandmotherly and sit in a rocking chair knitting and baking cookies (like 50-somethings did 50 years ago) then no, I’m not acting my age.

The cool thing about being over 50 is that I don’t really give a flip about what anyone thinks of how I act

This is what I’ve found about different ages:

18 – you want to be an adult, and the adults pat you on the head and talk to you in patronizing ways while pretending to treat you like an adult

21 – you are sure that people will start treating you like an adult because now you’re legal in all 50 states.  Nope.  Still considered an adolescent.

30 – you feel that NOW, FINALLY people will start taking you seriously.  They listen to you, then nod in that patronizing way because you are so inexperienced at everything

40 – People FINALLY start taking you seriously.  You start really enjoying life because you’re probably pretty entrenched in your career and likely making the most money you’ve ever made, living a little easier.  The most gratifying thing is that what you say seems to matter.

50 – You wonder what the fuss was all about.  Now you don’t care at all what people think.  You’ve finally discovered who you really are and you’re comfortable in your own skin.  People can take you or leave you – their gain or loss.

I don’t know about 60 and beyond since I haven’t experienced it yet.

I just answered this Featured Question; you can answer it too!

  • When you don’t go to the cleaners for a year…

…you run out of suits!  So I took all of my dry-cleaning in the other day and picked it up today.  Over $100 to clean some of my suits, dresses and silk blouses.  Oh well.  I’ll have to start taking them in sooner

  • Being the pacifist that I am…

…I am glad that Obama closed Gitmo.  I hope we can successfully end the war in Iraq in such a way that we don’t leave them floundering or vulnerable to Al Qaida.

    Expanding

I have been reading several people for several years, and have gotten to know others just through the comments they leave.  Today I decided to subscribe to some of the commenters that I feel I’ve gotten to know through others’ blogs.  So if you’re wondering why I’ve subscribed to you, it’s because you’ve commented often on someone else’s blog that I subscribe to

Also, some of you I may have subscribed to with my other entity, SherylM

  • What a small world!

I have done a lot of MySpace karaoke. I listen to a lot of people. One lady in particular seemed to be very popular, so I listened to her and left comments. She listened to my stuff and left comments. We became fans of each other (believe it or not I have 44 fans LOL)

Anyway, one day I looked at her karaoke profile and saw she was from Michigan, so I went to her MySpace profile. You had to be a friend to see her profile, so I sent her a friend request.

Then I emailed her and told her that I grew up in Smalltown, Michigan, and told her where it was in relation to BigCity, Michigan.

Turns out she lived there for 20 years, from 1978 to 1998

So I told her where I lived and some of the places I worked. Turns out a lady I worked at a club and her son (who was the bouncer) was her aunt and cousin. Her brother played in a band there. So then I started talking about the members of the band, and one of them was another cousin of hers. Then we talked about the long list of mutual friends we had in the late 70s but we NEVER MET. I wonder how many times our paths crossed and we didn’t even know it. We lived 2 miles apart.  I wouldn’t be surprised if I had served her drinks at the place I worked as a cocktail waitress.
